Frequently
Asked Questions
Here are the most common questions my patients ask. If you don’t find your answer below, please feel free to contact me.
I provide individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. My specialties include relationships, communication, anxiety, stress, life transitions, and emotional wellness. I offer both in-person sessions in Studio City, CA and secure virtual sessions for clients across California.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a type of brief, trauma-focused therapy that uses bilateral eye movements, guided imagery, and memory reconsolidating techniques to help clients process difficult experiences without having to relive the full emotional intensity of the trauma.
Although ART shares some similarities with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), it is typically more directive, faster, and involves a structured protocol designed to reduce the emotional charge attached to distressing memories.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is used to treat a wide range of challenges, including:
- Trauma and PTSD
- Anxiety and panic
- Depression
- Grief
- Phobias
- Stress
- Relationship issues
- Performance anxiety
- Behavioral patterns connected to unresolved trauma
It’s also helpful for people who struggle to talk about their trauma in detail—because ART does not require extensive verbal processing.
Therapy can help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, disconnected, or unsure how to navigate a situation. Many clients also come to therapy for personal growth, relationship improvement, emotional insight, or support through life changes. If you’re considering therapy, it’s often a sign you’re ready for support.
Your first session is a comfortable, judgment-free conversation where we explore what brings you in, your goals, your history, and what you’re hoping to change or understand. It helps us get to know each other and determine the best direction for your therapy.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum, emotional insight, and consistency. Some shift to biweekly or monthly sessions once they’ve made progress. Together, we’ll create a schedule that supports your goals.
I am an out-of-network provider. Many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement through their PPO insurance plan. I can provide a superbill upon request for you to submit to your insurance company.
I require 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or missed appointments will be charged the full session fee.

Therapy duration varies from client to client. Some people appreciate short-term, solution-focused support, while others value long-term deeper insight and growth. We’ll discuss what feels right for you as we work together.
Yes. Individual therapy is extremely effective for relationship healing, communication improvement, boundary-setting, and understanding emotional patterns—even when one partner attends alone.

Relationship / Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is a form of counseling that helps partners improve communication, resolve conflict, rebuild trust, and strengthen emotional connection. Kelli Miller guides both partners toward healthier patterns and better understanding.
Relationship therapy works by helping partners identify unhealthy communication patterns, explore emotions safely, and practice proven tools to improve connection. Sessions typically involve guided conversations, communication exercises, and strategies to rebuild trust and intimacy.
Couples should consider therapy when communication becomes difficult, arguments repeat, trust feels unstable, or emotional distance grows. Many couples also begin therapy proactively to strengthen their relationship before problems escalate.
Couples therapy can help with communication problems, recurring conflict, infidelity, trust issues, emotional distance, intimacy challenges, parenting disagreements, financial stress, and premarital preparation. It also helps partners navigate major life transitions.

It’s common for one person to feel hesitant. A therapist can help both partners understand the benefits and create a safe, balanced space. Even if only one partner starts therapy, it often encourages the other to join.
Online couples therapy is highly effective for communication work, conflict resolution, emotional connection, and guidance. Many couples prefer it for convenience, privacy, and flexibility.
In the first session, the therapist learns about your relationship history, current challenges, and goals. You and your partner will discuss what you want to improve and begin exploring new ways to communicate and connect.

Kelli is the bestselling author of Love Hacks: Simple Solutions to Your Most Common Relationship Issues. In the book, she distills key patterns that frequently sabotage relationships and presents “hacks” – quick, usable strategies – to help couples get unstuck and reconnect.
She is a California-based licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and relationship expert. She holds a Master of Social Work (MSW), with a private practice in Studio City, CA.
Her background also includes media work: she has hosted relationship-focused radio and television segments, served as a relationship expert columnist and contributor, and has been featured in outlets such as Oprah Magazine and Authority Magazine.
Kelli’s philosophy is grounded in the idea that while long-term therapy has its place, many couples in crisis need timely, practical help – options they can use now rather than later. She encourages clients to begin with tools, move toward deeper emotional work, and ultimately build a partnership where both people feel heard, supported, and aligned.
